Heidi Sawyer, PharmD

Dr. Sawyer is a clinical pharmacist and principal with Formulary Resources, LLC. Since 2006, she has focused on writing AMCP-formatted dossiers and P&T committee monographs. Prior to this Dr. Sawyer spent 10 years as an ambulatory care clinical pharmacist at the Women’s, Children’s and International Clinics at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, WA.

Additionally, Dr. Sawyer is a preceptor with the University of Washington School of Pharmacy. She was also a clinical instructor with the University of Washington School of Pharmacy and lectured at the Northwest University School of Nursing. She has published articles in pediatric pharmacy, authored chapters in a collaborative drug therapy handbook as well as prepared and presented continuing education modules with the University of Washington School of Pharmacy, University of Washington School of Nursing and the organization Wellness Partners.

Dr. Sawyer received her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Wisconsin and her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Washington where she also completed a general practice residency.

Linda Sturm, BS Pharmacy, MHA

Ms. Sturm is Director of Clinical Services for Formulary Resources, LLC. She has over 15 years’ experience in a variety of pharmacy settings, including hospital, retail, academia, and managed care.

Prior to joining Formulary Resources, Ms. Sturm served as Clinical Programs Manager for the Regence Group in Seattle, Washington. There, she was primarily responsible for formulary, clinical programs, benefits design, and strategic planning for 3.2 million lives. The Regence Group is best known as the originator of the AMCP Format for Formulary Submissions.

Ms. Sturm received her pharmacy degree and Masters of Health Services Administration from the University of Washington. While obtaining her masters, she concurrently completed a 2-year hospital pharmacy residency at Group Health Cooperative of Puget Sound. Ms. Sturm has maintained board certification as a Pharmacotherapy Specialist since 1994.

Pete Penna, PharmD, of counsel

Dr Penna has over 50 years’ experience in a variety of pharmacy settings, including hospital, retail, academia, and managed care.

Dr. Penna served as Vice President of Pharmacy at CIGNA HealthCare. He was responsible for all aspects of the pharmacy benefit for 8 million lives, including strategic planning, clinical programs, contracting, formulary processes, benefit design, mail service, etc. He served as a member of and chair of their P&T committee during this time and directed the staff supporting the committee.

Prior to his years at CIGNA, Dr. Penna was Director of Pharmacy at Group Health Cooperative of Puget Sound. He served as a member and as chair of their Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee for over 14 years, and directed the staff support function for the committee. A founder and past president of the AMCP, Dr. Penna continues to be an active member. He has also served as the Director of the Foundation for Managed Care Pharmacy’s program to implement AMCP’s Format for Formulary Submissions. He has published numerous articles and lectured widely on pharmacy in managed care settings.

Dr. Penna received his Pharmacy Degree from the University of California in San Francisco, where he also completed his pharmacy residency training. His interests include formulary processes, pharmacoeconomics, benefit design and clinical services in managed care.
